Scholarships and Awards
Here is a list of scholarships and awards that recognize the efforts of outstanding youth. If you know of a scholarship that you think should be listed let us know.
TD Canada Trust Scholarships
> Eligibility Criteria: Any student across Canada in their final year of high school or CEGEP; minimum average of 75% in most recently completed full year of school
> Selection Criteria: Outstanding Community Leadership
> Award Value: Up to $70,000 (up to 20 scholarships available)
> Application Due Date: October 31, 2010
Loran Awards (Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation)
> Eligibility Criteria: Any student across Canada in their final year of high school or CEGEP; minimum cumulative average of 85%, Canadian citizen or permanent resident
> Selection Criteria: Character, service, and leadership
> Award Value: Up to $75,000 (up to 30 scholarships available)
> Application Due Date: N/A (usually late October)
Top 20 under Twenty (Youth in Motion)
> Eligibility Criteria: Under the age of 20 as of December 31, 2010, desire to pursue some form of education or training (high school or equivalent, CEGEP, GED, college, university, training or apprenticeship programs), Canadian citizen or landed immigrant status
> Selection Criteria: Innovation, leadership, and achievement
> Award Value: Up to $5,000 to be applied towards and educational experience, plus access to leadership development and mentorship opportunities (20 awards available)
> Application Due Date: N/A (applications will be available in late October 2010)
Queen’s Chancellor’s Scholarships (and other Major Entrance Awards)
> Eligibility Criteria: Any student across Canada in their final year of high school or CEGEP, minimum cumulative average of 90%, must apply to Queen’s University through OUAC before scholarship deadline
> Selection Criteria: Superior academic ability, creative and original thinking, proven leadership qualities
> Award Value: $36,000 (50 scholarships available)
> Application Due Date: December 1, 2010
Western National Scholarships
> Eligibility Criteria: Any student across Canada in their final year of high school or CEGEP
> Selection Criteria: Outstanding academic performance, creative and innovative thought, passion for the pursuit of learning, achievement in the arts and athletics, special emphasis is placed on commitment to community service through ongoing contributions to school and community life
> Award Value: ONE at approx $64,000, SIX at approx $34,000; EIGHT and approx $16,000
> Application Due Date: N/A (usually mid-February)
University of Toronto National Scholarships
> Eligibility Criteria: Canadian citizen or permanent resident, intending to begin university study in September 2011
> Selection Criteria: Superior academic performance, original and creative thought, exceptional achievement in a broad context, enthusiasm for intellectual exploration, involvement in school/community life
> Award Value: Tuition and incidental fees for four years, residence support in first year, and an additional, renewable monetary award (value of monetary award will be determined annually on the basis of individual financial circumstances) (approximately 10 scholarships available)
> Application Due Date: October 4, 2010
University of Ottawa President’s and Chancellor’s Scholarships
> Eligibility Criteria: Canadian citizen or permanent resident or protected-person status, meet admission requirements of faculty concerned
> Selection Criteria: Leadership qualities, a commitment to academic and extracurricular activities
> Award Value: SIX at $30,000 (must be bilingual), SIX at $26,000 (need not be bilingual)
> Application Due Date: N/A (usually early March)
> NOTE: The University of Ottawa also has 84 scholarships worth $20,000 each available to French Immersion students and students from Francophone high schools. See website for more details.
Wendy’s Classic Achiever Scholarships
> Eligibility Criteria: Any student across Canada in their final year of high school or CEGEP with the intent to enter college or university in the next academic year, Canadian citizen or permanent resident, achieved at least 70% average in previous year, participated in at least one extracurricular activity
> Selection Criteria: Academics, extracurricular activities, and community service
> Award Value: ELEVEN at $5,000, TWO at $2,500
> Application Due Date: N/A (usually early November)
Miller-Thomson Foundation National Scholarships
> Eligibility Criteria: Any student across Canada in their final year of high school or CEGEP, intending to attend a post-secondary institution in September 2011, Canadian citizen or permanent resident
> Selection Criteria: Academic ability, contribution to school and community life through extracurricular activities
> Award Value: $1,000 (200 scholarships available)
> Application Due Date: March 15, 2011 (Applications available December 1, 2010)
